What we do
Relief by the River
Relief by the River seeks to create a sense of belonging and community for the homeless, disadvantaged and rough sleepers around the Melbourne CBD by hosting weekly community lunches and a pop-up pantry. Each week a hot lunch will be served, and an outdoor pantry set up for visitors to 'shop' for their needs week-to-week. This service aims to create a sense of camaraderie amongst disadvantaged communities by bringing them together and creating support networks to build and draw on to cope and create meaning in times of need and crisis. On occasion a Pop-Up market features offering clothing, blankets as well as health products including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturisers etc. The empowerment of visitors to come along and chose what they need is critical to creating an environment of respect and belonging.
Relief Hotline
The advent of COVID-19 has created an environment of great anxiety and uncertainty within the community.
The Humble Mission offers a Relief Hotline which takes referrals and requests for food relief as well as other essential items from individuals and families directly as well as referrals from loved ones, local councils and other charities. In response, The Humble Mission prepare and deliver customised relief packages based on need. Requests are also taken from and deliveries made to Hotels and Hostels currently accommodating the homeless and rough sleepers in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Requests are taken by email, text and phone to ensure the service can be as accessible as possible.
